Avenues The World School – Rethinking Education Exhibition
Date: March 2025 / Location: New York City
The Noel Shoe Museum is deeply committed to educational outreach and in February 2025, invited by Avenues the World School in NYC, the museum launched its first in a series of Reimagining Education exhibitions tailored for schoolchildren, aiming to inspire the next generation by connecting them to history, design, and cultural studies through the lens of footwear. These initiatives provide students with hands-on experiences, fostering creativity and critical thinking as they learn about the evolution of shoes and their societal significance. The exhibition at Avenues the World School showcased a curated selection of the museum’s permanent collection of historical shoes from the 10th century to the present, exploring human cultural evolution. The exhibition also included some of the museum’s exciting Icon Collection, featuring shoes from inspiring individuals and their incredible stories told through their footwear including President George H. W. Bush, Olympian Usain Bolt, Shaquille O’Neal, and more. The exhibition ran for two days and captivated both the students and their teachers as they learned about the shoes and the stories behind them with NSM founder Vanessa Noel.
